Hear New Zealand firms Fisher and Paykel Appliances and Volastic talk about their operations in Thailand.
The Kingdom of Thailand is one of the largest countries in Southeast Asia and one of the fastest growing economies. It has a population of 65.9 million. Thai is the national language, but English is the next most commonly spoken language and is especially prevalent among the business community in Bangkok. The World Bank ranks Thailand as the second easiest country in ASEAN, behind Singapore, in which to do business.
For the year ended June 2008, Thailand was New Zealand’s 11th largest export destination and since the New Zealand Thailand Closer Economic Partnership (CEP) entered into force in 2005, total trade between New Zealand and Thailand has nearly doubled.
The sectors with potential for New Zealand in Thailand are food and beverage, specialised manufacturing, information and communications technology including the opportunities that New Zealand can offer Thailand’s growing medical tourism sector. Thailand is also a key export education market for New Zealand.
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) has an office in Bangkok. See the NZTE website for office location and contact information.
