Philippines

Following almost four centuries of Spanish colonial rule, the Philippines became a colony of the USA and gained independence in 1946.  Today the Republic of Philippines is the only Christian country in Southeast Asia.  With a population in excess of 97 million people, the Philippines is a large and growing market.

English is the country’s second language and the language of commerce. Filipinos, having assimilated both the Asian and Western cultures, have a strong preference for imported products.

The Philippines was New Zealand’s 13th largest export market in the year ended June 2008.  Sectors with opportunities for New Zealand exporters are food and beverage including food processing technology, information and communications technology, timber, infrastructure development, and education.

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise has an office in Manila. See the NZTE website for office location and contact information.
